Triticale — a special hybrid cereal
Triticale is a man-made cereal developed by crossing soft wheat with rye.
It was mainly grown in Western Europe, but it is now increasingly common in Ukrainian fields.
Ecopel LLC has also turned to triticale, as it surpasses both wheat and rye in nutritional value and yield. Triticale grain is also highly resistant to diseases, fungi and low temperatures, so it can be grown anywhere in Ukraine.
Triticale as feed for cattle and pigs
Triticale is used in livestock farming. Thanks to its easily digestible protein and high starch content, it is equally good for fattening cattle and pigs. Triticale is also increasingly used for malt and baking flour.
Breeders are actively working with triticale and keep improving its key characteristics.
How triticale is grown
Ecopel LLC grows its own triticale, so our specialists know the ins and outs of sowing and caring for it.
Organic and mineral fertilisers are used to boost yields. Yields are consistently high after silage maize, early potatoes and peas. Triticale also does well after buckwheat, legumes and flax. The land is prepared for triticale in the same way as for wheat.
Where to buy triticale?
Our farm actively grows and sells triticale, so buying it is easy.
Ecopel LLC recommends triticale to pig farms and cattle farms. It is used both as an alternative and as the main type of compound feed.
